What is Vaginoplasty?
Vaginoplasty, also known as vaginal tightening, is a procedure that improves a woman’s vaginal canal. The surgery may be performed for reconstructive or cosmetic reasons. The overall goal of the surgery is to strengthen and tighten muscles, as well as remove damaged tissue.
The benefits of vaginoplasty are somewhat unique to each woman. In general, the surgery:
- Improves the appearance of the vagina
- Tightens and firms the vaginal canal
- Can be combined with other types of vaginal rejuvenation
- Helps with sexual experience for both partners
Why is Vaginoplasty Recommended?
Dr. Imtiaz may recommend vaginoplasty for reconstructive or cosmetic reasons. Reconstructive vaginoplasty is typically recommended after childbirth. When a newborn passes through the vaginal canal, the muscles are stretched, and the lining may tear and shred. For many women, the muscles simply contract back to the original shape, and the lining heals with time. Some women, though, do not heal in this manner and vaginoplasty is an option to restore the vaginal canal. Cosmetic vaginoplasty, also known as vagina reduction, is performed for purely aesthetic reasons. A woman may not be satisfied with the tightness of her vaginal canal, as well as the appearance of the vagina.
How is Vaginoplasty Performed?
As a board-certified (gynecological) surgeon, Dr. Imtiaz specializes in several different techniques that are used for vaginoplasty. Dr. Imtiaz can perform vaginoplasty using surgical procedures or using a non-surgical technique – ThermiVa™. She may use a singular technique or a combination of techniques. She will explain your specific vaginoplasty surgery during your consultation.
You will not be able to drive after your vaginoplasty surgery, so you should make arrangements for someone to bring you to the appointment. You will also need to make arrangements for someone to stay with you at home for at least one week if a surgical approach is used
You should use any medications as prescribed. Dr. Imtiaz will also provide post-surgical instructions that should be followed. You may be required to limit your activities, including sex and use of tampons, for a period of time after the surgery.
How Much Does Vaginoplasty Cost in Houston?
Reconstructive vaginoplasty is not covered by medical insurance. Cosmetic vaginoplasty is considered elective, so your insurance will not pay the cost. You are responsible for any balance. Payment can be made by cash, major credit card and CareCredit® financing.
